Thelma Ripley Wensil, loving mother and friend, of 75 Wellesley Drive, died Jan. 31, 1997, in her home.
She was born in Portsmouth, relocated to Newport News and resided there for the past 30 years. She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara L. Phillips.
Survivors include four loving daughters, Lois Breen, her husband, Clarence of Grafton, Va., Joanne Maddrey, her husband, Lin, of Portsmouth, Sandra Back, her husband, Dick, of Richmond, Betty Phillips, her husband, John of Gloucester, Va.; a sister, Ruth Howard, her husband, Raymond of Portsmouth; a sister, Mildred Doxey of Chesapeake; adored grandchildren, Terry Benson, Michelle Esp, David Breen, Gary Breen, Kenny Maddrey, Tammy Maddrey, Keith Maddrey, David Brinkley, Philip Brinkley, Jeff Brinkley, Mike Back, Cathy Davies and Tommy Hall; 18 beloved great-grandchildren; with many loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in Peninsula Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family has asked in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mary Immaculate Hospice.
