Charles Shaw Laird Sr., 76, of Cobbs Creek, died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Laird was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Norfolk, son of the late Horace C. and Ruth Emory Laird. He was a member of Kingston Parish Church, Mathews, Va. He was a graduate of Maury High School and Virginia Tech. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired aerospace engineer with NASA. He was an avid sailor, enjoyed traveling, woodworking and was a volunteer with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 12 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary L. Lindell of Michigan, Ruth L. Krynski of Falls Church, Va.; a son, Charles S. Laird Jr. of Virginia Beach; a brother, Robert E. Laird of Norfolk; a sister, Lucy Walton of California; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Kingston Parish Church, Mathews, by the Rev. Charles Johnson. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to Kingston Parish Church, Box 471, Mathews, Va. 23109. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
