Linda Franciose of Hanover, Va., scrambles ashore Saturday after
she joined nearly 600 others in the fifth annual Polar Plunge near
39th Street at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Since 1992, the event
has raised more than $120,000 for the Virginia Special Olympics.
Participants had to raise at least $35 to take the plunge.
