A baby found in a home about nine hours after its mother collapsed apparently was stillborn, police said Saturday.
Police said a woman who was renting a room at a home in the 1100 block of Jackson St. collapsed at 7:30 a.m. Friday and was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital.
By Friday afternoon, doctors determined that she had recently given birth. Police went to the home at 4:30 p.m. and found the baby.
On Saturday, the State Medical Examiner's office in Norfolk said it appeared the child, a boy, was stillborn.
``There are some further tests that have to be run as a result of the autopsy,'' said Lou Thurston, a police spokesman. ``But, at this point, it does not appear as though any charges will be filed.''
