Aretha W. Blizzard, 90, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 31, 1997.
A native of Surry County, she was the widow of Willie Blizzard and a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Circle and the Choir. She was predeceased by a son, Robert M. Blizzard.
Survivors include two sons, W. Martin Blizzard of Surry and Melvin H. Blizzard of Elberon; three daughters, Gladys Hayes of Fort Washington, Md., Gloria Young of Virginia Beach and V. Gale Hames of Hampton; a sister, Martha W. Barham of Hampton; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Beamon officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Viewing will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Poole's Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The procession will assemble at 10 Beechland Road, Surry, by 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.
