The Catholic diocese of Richmond honored four priests Sunday night
who have been named monsignors by the Vatican. More than 1,000
people attended the ceremony, which was led by Bishop Walter F.
Sullivan, at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception
in Norfolk. Honored were: Walter Barrett, rector of the Basilica of
St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk; Thomas J.
Caroluzza, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Virginia Beach and
Episcopal Vicar for the Eastern Vicariate of the Diocese; Michael
McCarron, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Vincent DePaul
in Newport News; and William L. Pitt, principal of Catholic High
School in Virginia Beach. The four were among 13 diocesan priests
who were recognized by the Vatican.
