Jessie Cutchins Pope, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.
She was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church, Vries Carter Bible Class, the Newsoms Golden Age Club and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Linwood C. and Naomi Fowler Cutchins. She was predeceased by her husband, Willie G. Pope, and four children.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara P. Burgess of Courtland, Gwennie P. Overby of Branchville, Virginia P. King of Handsom and Elizabeth P. Fowler of Franklin; four sons, James F. Pope of Courtland, William E. Pope of Newport News, Harvey G. Pope of Courtland and Linwood L. ``Cat'' Pope of Newsoms; nine sisters, Catherine C. Stephenson of Ivor, Alice C. Hill of Norfolk, Marion C. Swindell of Plymouth, N.C., Kate Bush of Florida, Elizabeth Sadler of Charlottesville, Betty Throckmorton of Richmond, Bertha Baugus of Alaska, Rebecca Mercer of Florida, Millie Butner of Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Frank Porter of Texas, Lee Etheridge of Chesapeake, Jim Long of Pennsylvania; stepmother, Ruth C. Edwards of Petersburg; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held in Newsoms United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Pat B. Tony and Renee Edwards. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms. The family will receive friends in Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Newsoms United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad.
