Edward Thomas Merritt Jr., 82, died Feb. 3, 1997, in Nassawadox, Va.
A native of Capeville, Va., Mr. Merritt was a member of Capeville United Methodist Church and Capeville Masonic Lodge No. 107 A.F. & A.M. for more than 50 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the 29th Division, 116th Infantry Company, which participated in the D-Day Invasion and landed on Omaha Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Long Merritt; son, E. Tom Merritt III of Richmond.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Capeville Masonic Cemetery by the Rev. Bob Cooper. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Capeville United Methodist Church c/o Greg Routzong, P.O. Box 127, Eastville, Va. 23347 or the Cape Charles Rescue Service, Cape Charles, Va. 23310. Fox and Scott Funeral Home, Cape Charles, is in charge.
