Police will hold funeral services today for Iron, the police dog shot to death by a robbery suspect he was chasing behind an apartment complex Thursday.
The service is not open to the public, police said.
The funeral, with full police honors, will be conducted at the K-9 training range, and the dog will be buried at a pet cemetery in Virginia Beach, police said.
Iron, a 6-year-old Belgian malinois, was donated to Norfolk police by the Elizabeth City Police Department three years ago. Police said the dog was credited with chasing and catching several burglary and auto-theft suspects.
