Kempsville High has forfeited two boys basketball victories it earned last week for using an ineligible player, athletic director Carol Chory said Tuesday.
The forfeits dropped the Chiefs from second to third place in the Beach District.
The player, whom the school would not identify, was a junior varsity call-up. He made his varsity debut with limited minutes in an 89-43 victory over Kellam Jan. 28 and an 81-49 win against First Colonial Saturday.
Kempsville coach Vernon King said he didn't discover the player was ineligible until Monday morning. School officials immediately notified the district principals and the Virginia High School League.
``It was a clerical error,'' King said.
