Melvin Curtis Brown died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, in DePaul Medical Center.
He was a warehouse worker for Grand Furniture and served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Verdell Newton Brown; 10 daughters, Veronica Winslow and Janice Bagley of Chesapeake, Vanessa Copeland, Michelle Brown, Darlene Poarch and Sandra Harris of Norfolk, Patrice Brown of Newport News, Theressa Brown-Hopkins of Virginia Beach, Verdell Hill of Richmond and Sharon Magnum of Charlotte, N.C.; three sons, Vincent Newton of Hyattsville, Md., Curtis Brown of Rhode Island and Ronald Brown of Norfolk; sister, Catherine Vaughan of Norfolk; brother, Joseph Brown of Boston; 24 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Katherine Kline; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Freedom COGIC by the Rev. Frank Askew. Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will be at 730 Redmill Road, Norfolk. A wake service will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Graves Funeral Home. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
