Mrs. Martha Berry Justice, 97, a Portsmouth resident for all of her life, died Feb. 7, 1997, in Churchland House Retirement Home.
Mrs. Justice was a native of Parkersburg, W.Va., and was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Justice was a yeomanette in the U.S. Navy during World War I and was stationed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in the receiver's office. Mrs. Justice was retired from Portsmouth Floral Co. after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of the Tidal Wave Chapter No. 9, O.E.S., past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, past president of the Daughters of America, past noble grand, Rebekah Port Norfolk Lodge No. 25, past president of the Rosa Brooks Class at Broad Street United Methodist Church, past president of the Pythian Sisters, a member of A.A.R.P., a member of Beazley Senior Center and a member of the Senior Citizens Center.
Mrs. Justice is survived by three sons, Russell Berry of Chesapeake, Bernard Berry of Portsmouth and Hubert Berry of Richmond; daughter, Ann Lee Self of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren, Maurice Berry Jr., Betty Jo Ward, Russell Berry Jr., Gail Dobbs, Lee Berry, Cheryl Stevens, Tobin Berry, Stacey Berry, Martha Wilson, Leanne Self-Pelkington and Sandra Self; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral with Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, by the Rev. Kathryn Pigg. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
