Carole Jean Leadmon Masters was called home to the Lord on Feb. 9, 1997. Her faith in God helped her through a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Huntington, W.Va., on Jan. 1, 1935, and had made her home in Portsmouth since 1960. She was an active volunteer in many community organizations. She had been a licensed Realtor since 1977 and was the recipient of many awards, including the National Sales Award, Silver Award and Diamond Award in 1996. She was also an active member in Boogie on the Bay Shag Club. She was a longtime member of Western Branch Baptist Church and recently attended Emmaus Foursquare Gospel Church.
She had been such a joy and inspiration to her family and friends and will truly be missed.
Survivors include her husband, Theodore E. Masters Jr.; daughter, Julie Masters Gavin, and son-in-law, Kyle R. Gavin, of Portsmouth; son, Scott Olsen Masters, and fiancee, Sonya Marie Dunning, of Portsmouth; brother, Larry Leadmon, and sister-in-law, Barbara Leadmon, of Portsmouth; mother-in-law, Margaret O. Masters; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Masters; grandsons, Shaun Thomas and River Gavin; and very special friends, Judy Lassiter and husband Gerald Lassiter. She was the daughter of the late Evelyn Nicely Leadmon and Claude L. Leadmon.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Western Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Mullinax officiating. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
