Dorothy Gillette Balfour Rose, 80, died Feb. 9, 1997, in Sentara Medical Center.
Mrs. Rose was a native of Franklin and was the daughter of the late D.C. and Minnie Jane Joyner Gillette. Mrs. Rose was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Mary Washington College. She was a registered nurse and received her training at Norfolk General Hospital. She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church, Franklin.
She is survived by her husband, G. Roy Rose; a son, Daniel T. Balfour of Richmond; a daughter, Meta Balfour Jones of Conyers, Ga.; five grandchildren; a brother, D.C. Gillette Jr. of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Richard W. Balfour.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, by the Rev. Edward Johnson and by the Rev. James W. Turner. The family will receive friends at the residence of her niece, Teresa B. Beale, at 400 Old Sedley Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the Texie Camp Marks Children Center, 700 Campbell Ave., Franklin, Va. 23851 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
