John William Lee Craig, 75, of Radford passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997 at 1:35 p.m. at Radford Community Hospital.
Mr. Craig was born in Bluefield, W.Va., and grew up in Roanoke before moving to Radford in the late 1940s. He worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway for 47 years, interrupted only to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II where he obtained the rank of sergeant. Mr. Craig was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Virginia May Lodge (NU)38 AF & AM, and past patron of Virginia May Chapter (NU)92, Order of the Eastern Star.
A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Betty Jane Myers Craig; three sons and daughters-in-law, John W.L. II and Ann Craig, Mark R. and Joann Craig, all of Radford, and J. David and Sandy Craig of Chesapeake; as well as six grandchildren, Alexander, Katherine, Jacob, Stephanie, Emily and John W.L. III; his sister, Iris Craig Sartini of Roanoke; and his brother and sister-in-law, Melvin R. and Jessie Craig of Goodview.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Central United Methodist Church, Radford, by the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery, Radford.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association. Seavers-Sanders and Mullins Funeral Home, Radford, is handling arrangements.
