Charles L. Ewell Sr., 81, died Feb. 12, 1997.
A native of Norfolk, he was the widower of Ruth Hardison Ewell. He was a retired brakeman for Norfolk and Western Railroad with 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Brides Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Ewell Scamadro of College Station, Texas; a son, Charles L. Ewell Jr. of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Virginia West, Genevieve Holt and Geraldine Morris, all of Virginia Beach; a brother, Frederick Ewell of Norfolk; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and is also survived by his loving companion of 16 years, Dollie Ward.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Michael J. Godderz. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
