THOMAS A. MIECHURSKI

Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Thomas A. Miechurski of the 400 block of Honey Locust Way died Feb. 16, 1997, in Chesapeake General Hospital.

He was a retired Naval commander with 30 years of service and was born in Buffalo, N.Y. Mr. Miechurski was a member of Norfolk Gardens Baptist Church and attended St. Canisius College before joining the Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. Cmdr. Miechurski was a Pearl Harbor survivor and commanding officer of the USS Windlass. He was a recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal and a member of the Retired Officer's Association.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Ford White Miechurski; daughter, Veronica M., and her husband, John W. Sumner, of Portsmouth; stepson, Dale S., and his wife, Diane C. White, of Norfolk; two sisters, Adele Jarosz of New York and Bernadette Krane of Colorado; two grandchildren, Eric and Tiffany Sumner of Portsmouth; three stepgrandsons, Richard, Daniel and David White of Norfolk. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Jacob Miechurski, and mother, Alice S. Miechurski, both of New York; his previous wife, Anne M. Voermans Miechurski; brother, Stanley A. Miechurski; sister, Phyllis E. Rudzinski, also of New York.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by Pastors Robert S. Guelich and David Hillis. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
