WILLIAM L. STURTEVANT

William L. ``Bill'' Sturtevant, 78, died Feb. 18, 1997, in Duke Hospital.

He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and Duke Divinity School. He was a retired member of the Virginia Methodist Annual Conference. During his career as a member of the Virginia Divinity School, Bill served in the following cities in Virginia: Norfolk, Boykins, Callao, Oakton, Altavista, Richmond, Covington, Alexandria and Manassas. He also served as pastor of Wesley Chapel and Ebenezer United Methodist Churches. He was a past president of Franklinton Lions Club, a former member of Franklinton School Board, a member of Franklinton Masonic Lodge (NU)123 and American Legion Post (NU)52, and he was an Army chaplain in World War II. He received the volunteer of the year award from Franklinton City Schools in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Goswick Sturtevant; a son, William L. Sturtevant Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughters, Claudia S. Parks of Pulaski, Va., Brenda Clegg of Gahanna, Ohio; sister, Dorothy S. Martindale of Dunedin Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Franklinton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rose Conner, the Rev. Sidney Stafford, the Rev. Wayne Parsley and the Rev. Earl Tyson. Private Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Sandling Funeral Home, Franklinton.
