Corean Hicks Jones, 74, of 14 Hobson St., died Feb. 22, 1997, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

Born in Southampton County, she was the widow of Elijah L. Jones Sr. She was a retired teacher of Portsmouth City Public School System and a member of the national, state and local education association. She was also a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Temple Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Jones of Portsmouth; two sons, Elijah L. Jones Jr. of Southfield, Mich., Spencer Jones of Atlanta; six sisters, Uray Butler, Vergie Warren, Lora Harris, Merline Clarke, all of Ivor, Va., Mary Gwaltney of Philadelphia, Mildred Haskins of Smithfield, Va.; a brother, Henry Hicks of Ivor; a grandchild; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Mount Hermon Baptist Temple Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. N. Lamonte Newsome. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
