JOSEPH E. SOKOLIK

Joseph E. Sokolik, 69, of the 1600 block of Dey Cove Drive, died Feb. 25, 1997, in Vero Beach, Fla.

Born in Yonkers, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frances R. Kovalik and Joseph A. Sokolik. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Family and Broad Bay Country Club. He served in the Navy during World War II and was an accountant for IBM for 25 years before his retirement. He attended Iona College, New York. His full-time hobby was woodworking. He left his gorgeous work as a legacy of beautiful gifts for his children, grandchildren and close friends.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Therese (Terry) A. Sokolik; his children, Carolyn A. Cavins and husband, Martin, Joseph E. Jr., Thomas F. and wife, Sonja, Patricia A. Piacenti and husband, Robert, Francis R. and wife, Donna, Mary T. Chapman and husband, Jerry, Paul Jr.; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; his sister, Florence M. Puchir; and cousin, George R. Kovalik.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Church of the Holy Family, 1279 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Bank of the Church of the Holy Family, 1279 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
