Michael W. Brossette, born Feb. 27, 1956, died March 10, 1997, at the age of 41, in a Philadelphia hospital.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Frances and Ted Sells of Virginia Beach; father, Frank Brossette and family of Aurora, Colo.; two grandmothers, Alice Twiford of Norfolk, Katherine Sells of Cortland, Ohio. His family also includes an uncle and aunt and two cousins. Michael has one brother, Bill Brossette, and a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Dwight Mitchum; two nephews, Aaron Winter and Travis Brossette, all of Virginia Beach.
Michael was a graduate of Old Dominion University in business administration and received his master's degree in health care administration from George Washington University. Professionally, Michael enjoyed a dynamic career in health care administration.
During his time as a health care executive, he had several administrative positions in hospitals in Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He left a position at Baltimore's GBMC to become assistant vice president at Cooper Hospital-University Medical Center in Camden, N.J. From Cooper he went to the Metropolitan Healthcare System where he eventually became the executive director for the three-hospital system. He concluded his health care experience as chief operating officer at Bon Secours Hospital, Baltimore. While at Bon Secours Hospital, Baltimore, he was very proud of his involvement in facilitating the design and construction of the new Ambulatory Services' addition.
In 1992, Michael left health care administration to pursue other interests and from 1994 to 1996 he and his partners opened and operated three wonderful restaurants, two in Rehoboth and one in Washington, D.C.
Michael felt a tremendous responsibility to the community and was a vital member of a number of organizations, the most notable of whice were: president of the Delaware HIV Consortium, board member of Camp Rehoboth, co-chair of the silent auction for the Human Rights Campaign, board member of Building Futures: Family AIDS Housing, and president of the Baltimore Medical System.
His warmth, compassion and loyalty to his family and friends was remarkable. For all of his love and caring he will be sorely missed by all the people whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore St., Rehoboth, at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 22. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Michael W.
