INGERSOLL-DRESSER MAKES ALLIANCE WITH EASTMAN KODAK: Ingersoll-Dresser Pump Co., which has a major manufacturing facility in Chesapeake, announced Tuesday a global alliance with Eastman Kodak Co. Under the agreement, Ingersoll-Dresser will supply new equipment, parts, repairs, resident engineering support and training to Kodak's plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Great Britain, France and Australia, the company said.

NORFOLK

NEWSPAPER NAMES NEWSROOM PERSONNEL: The Virginian-Pilot named four people to senior positions in the newsroom. Tom Warhover, currently regional editor, was named deputy managing editor for local expertise, effective March 24. He will oversee The Pilot's news bureaus in South Hampton Roads and Richmond, as well as reporting teams covering education, public safety and local government and civic life. The editors who coordinate The Pilot's Hampton Roads section will also report to him. Warhover joined The Pilot in 1986. Baylies Brewster, The Pilot's team management coach, will become director of newsroom staff development, effective March 31. She will oversee the newsroom's recruiting, training, team-management and internal communications efforts, as well as its library. She has been with The Pilot's parent company, Norfolk-based Landmark Communications Inc., since 1985. Joseph Coccaro, currently business editor, will become director of product development, effective March 24. Coccaro will be the chief liaison for the newsroom's ventures in TV, radio and online services, and will oversee the paper's computer-assisted reporting effort. He joined The Pilot in 1990. Marian Anderfuren will become business editor, effective April 7. She will oversee the newspaper's recently expanded business-news sections. She has been with The Pilot since 1978, and is general manager of the newspaper's Commonwealth Printing/Home Express unit.

VIRGINIA BEACH

MAX MEDIA BUYS TV STATION AND SELLS RADIO STATION: Max Media Properties LLC of Virginia Beach said it purchased a TV station in Tyler, Texas, and sold a radio station in Las Vegas. Max paid $17 million to Lone Star Broadcasting for NBC affiliate KETK-TV in Tyler. In addition, Lone Star signed a ``time brokerage'' agreement with Max in which Max will sell most of the ad time and do most of the programming for NBC affiliate KLSB-TV in Nacogdoches, Texas. Separately, Max said it sold KKLZ-FM in Las Vegas to Apogee Communications of Lake Oswego, Ore. The sale price was $13 million. Max, chaired by longtime local broadcast veteran Aubrey E. ``Gene'' Loving Jr., now owns or operates 17 radio and TV stations in the United States.

VIRGINIA

FIRST VIRGINIA TO SELL BRANCHES: First Virginia Banks Inc. agreed to sell three branch offices to satisfy federal and state antitrust concerns over its planned $190 million acquisition of Premier Bankshares Corp. Under the agreement, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Justice Department, First Virginia will sell three southwestern Virginia offices that have total deposits of $44.3 million, about 7 percent of what the company plans to acquire in the purchase. The acquisition will allow First Virginia to expand its market share in Virginia at a time when several out-of-state banks are looking to enter the state.
