John S. Copeland Jr., 62, died Sunday, March 23, 1997, in Williamsburg Community Hospital.
Mr. Copeland was a Norfolk native and a Peninsula resident for 14 years. He was a retired automobile dealer with John Copeland Motor Car Co., Virginia Beach, and was co-founder of Checkered Flag Motor Car Co., Virginia Beach. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Newport News, and held the office of high priest. He was a 1952 graduate of Granby High School, Norfolk, and attended VPI in Blacksburg.
Survivors include his wife, Kilja Copeland; daughters, Shari S. Buran of Richmond, Julie and her husband Jonathan Henry of Seaford; sons, Gary Copeland of Virginia Beach, Daniel Stockburger of Korea and Spencer Stockburger of Seaford; parents, John S. and Dorothy Copeland of Norfolk; sister, Kathryn Copeland of San Francisco; brother, Richard S. Copeland of Newport News; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Newport News, by Bishop Louis Jones. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Peninsula Funeral Home.
