GLENN C. WAGNER

Retired Navy Lieutenant Glenn Carl Wagner, 72, died March 23, 1997, in his home.

Glenn was born in Staceyville, Iowa, March 30, 1924. He was the son of Bertha A. Dahlberg and the late Isaac H. Wagner. He is survived by Irene, his beloved wife of 50 years.

He served his country for 30 years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, Cam Ranh Bay where he received the Navy Commendation Medal (with Combat V). He continued work as an employee for the City of Portsmouth as an electrical and building inspector, and a trusted employee of Bender Electric.

Throughout his life, his outreach to children was manifested. He was a Boy Scout leader, Pop Warner football coach, Little League baseball coach. He loved the water and outdoors. Many happy times were spent fishing with his fellow anglers and family. He was a devoted and cherished Grandpa, and Father.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his three children and their families who were the focus of his world, providing much encouragement and love. His two daughters and a son are Dr. Sandra L. Wagner of Alexandria, Va., Sharon M. and her husband, T. Charles Renner of Franktown, Va., Barry A. Wagner and his wife, Joy, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Shane Wagner, Baxter Wagner, Matthew Wagner, Anna Womble, Sarah Renner and Kate Renner.

Other survivors include brother, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Wagner and his wife, Jackie of Sunnyvale, Calif.; brother-in-law, Roy De Vries of Stayton, Ore.; sister-in-law, Gladys Wagner of Albert Lea, Minn.; many loving relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth De Vries and his brother, Harley Wagner.

He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Branch 40 Fleet Reserve Association, TROA, and V.F.W. 9382. He was a longtime resident of Portsmouth.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Daniel R. Falck. Interment with military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to King of Kings Lutheran Church, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, Va. 23435. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
