THOMAS J. EVANS

Thomas Jefferson Evans, 94, of Hatteras Island died March 24, 1997, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 12, 1902, in Berlin, Md., the son of the late Cornialious and Elmyra Richardson Evans. He was the husband of the late Neva Barnette Evans, beloved mother of his children, and the late Edna C. Evans. He was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and a veteran of World War II. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God.

He is survived by two daughters, Edith Stowe Oden of Hatteras, N.C., Gloria Grooms of Brooklet, Ga.; two sons, Harold Evans of Brooklet, and Merle Evans of Chesapeake; two sisters, Hattie Moorehouse and Mary McDonald, both of Moorestown, N.J.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in The Lighthouse Assembly of God Church by the Rev. Shawn Mizelle. Burial will follow in Jennette Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. Twiford Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
