Thressa May Hager passed away March 23, 1997.
Born in Centre Hall, Pa., April 23, 1914, she was the daughter of Charles Edgar and Blanche Esther (Reiber) Fye. She became a registered nurse after graduating from Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown, Pa. in 1935. She was a staff nurse at Centre County Hospital, Bellafonte, Pa., from 1935-1939 and was the head nurse in the operating room at the same hospital from 1939-1947.
She moved to Norfolk, and was the head operating room nurse at DePaul Hospital from 1948-1949. She then held the following positions at U.S. Public Health Service Hospital, Norfolk; clinical nurse from 1949-1954, head nurse of the out-patient department from 1954-1972, assistant director of nursing from 1972-1980 and supervisory clinical nurse from 1980 until her retirement when the U.S. Public Health Services Hospital closed.
She was a past member of the Memorial American Nurses Association, the National Association of Parliamentarians, the Virginia Nurses Association, the Methodist Clubs, the Eastern Star and the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America.
She organized the Clown Unit of Zulekia Court (NU)35 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of N.A. and she was a past high priestess of Zulekia Court (NU)35. She was also a past directress and toastmistress of the Royal Order of Jesterettes.
She married Arlie Clyde Hager on July 4, 1954, in Centre Hall. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hager is survived by two brothers, William Marlin Fye and Charles Curtis Fye, both of Centre Hall; two sisters, Leona Ilene Young and Wally Josephine Fix, also from Centre Hall.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Judge Hal J. Bonney Jr. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one prior to the service. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
