Two Republican newcomers to politics filed their intent to run for Commissioner of Revenue in Virginia Beach Tuesday, the first day candidates were eligible to make their bids official.
They are: Henry H. Richardson III, 46, past president of the Virginia Beach Hotel and Motel Association, and Rickie L. Richards, 50, an accountant with the City of Virginia Beach Finance Department.
Richardson and two brothers own four resort hotels.
Richards has worked for the city for 21 years.
Richardson and Richards each turned in more than 300 signatures needed to file, the appropriate forms and fees, said J.P. Godsey, the Virginia Beach GOP chair.
Two incumbent Democrats also filed Tuesday to run for Virginia Beach sheriff and state delegate.
Del. Glenn R. Croshaw, 46, a Virginia Beach lawyer, will run for another two-year term. He has been in the House of Delegates since December 1986, when he completed a term of office for Owen B. Pickett, now a Congressman from Virginia Beach.
Frank Drew, 49, filed for g2hrdig26 Drew another four-year term as sheriff. He has been in office eight years. Before becoming sheriff, he spent 20 years as a Virginia Beach policeman.
Candidates have until April 11 at 5 p.m. to file their intent to run with their party's chairperson. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
