Florence Elizabeth Mitchell, 70, of the 2400 block of Sero Court, died March 25, 1997, at the home of her sister.
She was born in Old Trap, N.C., on May 26, 1929, the daughter of the late M. Chester and Maggie Pugh Mitchell. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace, Edmond and Morris Mitchell. She was a graduate of Manteo High School, class of 1943. Miss Mitchell was a 1940s cast member of the ``Lost Colony Outdoor Play'' where she portrayed the wife of Chief Manteo. Later she had been employed with the Bank of Manteo and the Dare County Health Dept. She later moved to Norfolk where she retired from Acme Sheet Metal as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Colonial Ave. Methodist Church, Norfolk.
She is survived by two sisters, Doris Walker of Manteo, N.C., Joyce Cuthrell of Portsmouth; two brothers, Emmit Mitchell and his wife, Wendy of Manteo, Fleetwood Mitchell and his wife, Linda, of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Marie Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted in the chapel of Twiford Funeral Home, Great Bridge, at 7 p.m. Friday with a visitation following. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Manteo Cemetery by the Rev. Evelyn Puckett. Her sister, Joyce Cuthrell, will receive friends at her home all other times at 108 York Drive, Portsmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
