WILLIAM D. PUTNAM JR.

William DeMerritt Putnam Jr., 56, died March 23, 1997 at his residence.

He was born in Washington, D.C., and was the son of the late Ellen Lester Putnam. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he retired from C&P Telephone Co., where he worked for 28 years. A member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church, he had a love for gardening that earned him the distinction of Master Gardener.

He is survived by a wife of 32 years, Carol H. Putnam of Virginia Beach; a son, William D. Putnam III and wife, Lynn, of Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Karen P. Kinsey and husband, Rich, of Virginia Beach; father, Col. William D. Putnam Sr., U.S. Army retired, and his wife, Helen; a sister, Mrs. Lisa P. Greenwell of Springfield; a brother, Harry Putnam of Ellicott City, Md.; two grandchildren, Allyson and Andrew Putnam.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Dale City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pastoral Counseling and Consultation Centers, P.O. Box 39, Oakton, Va. 22124. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
