CROSSLAND MORTGAGE ACQUIRES HARBOURTON: CrossLand Mortgage Corp. has acquired the loan wholesale operations of Harbourton Mortgage Corp. in Chesapeake. The Chesapeake operation has changed its name to CrossLand, and the staff has remained in place throughout the acquisition. CrossLand is a wholly owned subsidiary of the financial services organization First Security Corp.

BARKER JOINS ALPHA DESIGN: Leigh Barker was named senior design/planner with Alpha Design Corp. She will specialize in commercial and federal projects for the firm. She was senior designer with the architectural and engineering firm of MMM Design Group in Norfolk.
DOLLAR TREE'S SALES RISE IN FIRST QUARTER: Dollar Tree Stores Inc., a retailer based in Norfolk, said its first-quarter sales climbed 39 percent, mainly due to good inventories and an early Easter that brought in more shoppers. Revenues rose to $117.7 million in the quarter ended March 31, up from $85 million in the same period in 1996. Same-store sales increased 10.9 percent. The company will release its earnings on April 23. Dollar Tree, which operates about 767 stores, plans to move its headquarters to Chesapeake later this year.
ALEXANDER NAMED DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR THE d'ART CENTER; RICKS ELECTED PRESIDENT OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Renee B. Alexander was named director of public relations for d'Art Center. She has worked in promotions in the Hampton Roads radio market for four years. Also, the d'Art Center elected David S. Ricks president of the center's board of directors. Ricks is vice president of development at Westminster-Canterbury.
DANDOY TO DIRECT NEW PROGRAM AT EVMS: Dr. Suzanne Eggleston Dandoy, director of the Virginia Beach Health Department since 1994, was named to direct Eastern Virginia Medical School's new master's in public health (MPH) degree program. The two-year program, a partnership with Old Dominion University, will begin in July. Dandoy has experience in two other MPH programs, at the University of Utah and Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.

HEILIG-MEYERS DECLARED DIVIDEND: Heilig-Meyers Co., the Richmond-based home furnishings retailer, Wednesday said that its Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of seven cents per share. This dividend is payable May 17, 1997, to shareholders of record April 23, 1997.
US AIRWAYS ANNOUNCES CUTBACKS: US Airways has laid off several hundred workers and scrapped most of its Caribbean and Canadian flights from Baltimore-Washington International Airport. The latest cutback leave only 76 US Airways jet flights daily at BWI. US Airways, which has the highest costs in the airline industry, is seeking to eliminate overlapping service at its costly East Coast hubs and build up its Philadelphia operation. Locally, no US Airways flights will be affected at Norfolk International Airport. However, at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, one of two daily Express flights to Baltimore will be eliminated beginning June 15.
