Lt. Gov. Donald S. Beyer Jr., the Democratic contender for

governor of Virginia, has said he does not intend to raise taxes. A

story Friday about the gubernatorial campaign erroneously stated the

opposite.

A story in Thursday's Hampton Roads section said incorrectly that

Suffolk's economic development department would get an additional

$108,200 to support the Virginia Modeling Analysis and Simulation

Center. The proposed 1997-98 budget would allocate an additional

$22,000 to VMASC. The $108,200 included other economic development

activities.
