George Fleming Black Sr., 78, died Monday, April 7, 1997.
A native of Stern, N.C., he had been a Hampton resident since 1940. After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, Mr. Black joined NASA, retiring in 1980 as a pyrotechnic technician after 40 years
Mr. Black is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Robert Franz of Yorktown; son and daughter-in-law, George F. Jr. and Jessie Kay Black of Hampton; two brothers, Harvey B. Black of Durham and James C. Black of Greenville, N.C.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 1997, in Bethel Cemetery, Bethel, N.C., by the Rev. Gayla Estes. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
