On April 5, 1997 at approximately 3 p.m. our beloved father, husband, brother, son, grandfather and uncle, Arthur W. Robinson III ``Tuttie'', of the 800 block of Mains Creek Road, departed this life after a brief illness in Chesapeake.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur W. Robinson Jr.; two daughters, Camillia B. and Rhonda E. Robinson.
Born Feb. 7, 1943, to Arthur W. and Mary E. Robinson Jr. in Norfolk, he attended St. Joseph Catholic School and at the age of 16 was one of the first six black Americans to graduate from Norfolk Catholic High School in the class of 1959. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army with three years of service he was employed as a teletype/computer operator at NAS Norfolk where he received numerous awards and honors for his achievements.
He is survived by his mother, Mary E. Robinson of Norfolk; wife, Doris M. Robinson; three sons, Arthur W. IV, Pierce A. and Byron P. Robinson; three brothers, Reginald H. Robinson of Washington, D.C., Emerson D. Robinson of Alexandria, Va. and Phillip C. Robinson of Norfolk; a sister, Kim E. Johnson of Norfolk; two uncles, Edward P. Robinson of Adelphi, Md., and Melvin Hart of Norfolk; an aunt, Emmaline Chauncey of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Tiffany D., Heather B. and Tarus M.; two daughters-in-law, Auora and Wilda Robinson; a special brother-in-law, Vance L. Moore of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, friends and co-workers.
A Rosary service and receiving of friends and co-workers will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hale Funeral Home, Norfolk. A funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 2 p.m. Friday at Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 1000 Holt St., Norfolk, by Monsignor Walter C. Barrett, rector/celebrant.
The family and friends will assemble at the residence on Friday at 1 p.m. for the procession to the church. Interment with military honors will be held at Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
