FRANCES L. BROWN

Frances Turner Lester Brown, 87, formerly of the 6400 block of Powhatan Ave., died Friday, April 11, 1997, in a local nursing home. She was a native of Smithfield and the daughter of the late Nancy Jones and Clarence Ambrose Turner Sr. She was predeceased by her husbands, Edgar Allen Lester Sr. and Charlie G. Brown.

Mrs. Brown was retired from the Norfolk Public Schools, having worked in administration for more than 25 years. She was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Norfolk Woman's Club.

She is survived by a son, E. Allen Lester Jr. and his wife, Ada, of Norfolk; two stepsons, John C. Brown of Apex, N.C., and Dr. Robert G. Brown of Opelika, Ala.; sister, Nancy T. Chase of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Christopher Lester, Jonathan Lester; and two step-grandchildren, Glenn Brown and Becki Brown.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 1997, in Cox Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Charles H. Smith and the Rev. Francis E. Collins. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield. The family will be at the funeral home today from 4 to 5 p.m. for visitation with friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Park Place United Methodist Church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
