Infant carrier being recalled

Anyone who has bought a Carter's Infant Carrier (style No. 89000) from J.C. Penney Co. since last June should know that the Consumer Product Safety Commission and its manufacturer have recalled the $30 carrier because the shoulder straps can come undone. In two instances, this caused babies to fall and hit their heads.

Consumers can return the quilted carriers and get replacements by calling Gold Bug, 800-942-9442. To report a dangerous product or product-related injury, call CPSC's hot line at 800-638-8270.

That's what a survey by the makers of Bosch and Skil tools turned up. Of the respondents, 86 percent said they would recommend those tools to any new do-it-yourselfer.

The two top qualities these and other tools should have? The survey said durability and performance.

Your town could be ``Matchbox USA''

Matchbox, the maker of tiny toy cars, is searching for a town to name ``Matchbox USA.'' The winning town will get $25,000 to use for a community project and the town's name printed on a collection of cars.

Children ages 12 and under are asked to write an essay on why their town should be named ``Matchbox USA'' and what their town would do with the prize money. Entries can be from individuals or groups. Essays will be judged on originality and civic need.

For an entry form, call 1-800-FOR-TYCO. Entries must be postmarked by Oct. 27.
