Mary Lou Guyton Nichols, 73, of the 200 block of W. Constance Road, died April 15, 1997, in Nansemond Pointe.
She retired as a food supervisor from Louise Obici Memorial Hospital after 28 years of service. She was a native of Dublin, N.C., and grew up in Franklin, Va. She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church and the Suzanne Wesley Sunday School class. She was a volunteer for the Suffolk Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She was one of the first volunteers in the hospice unit of Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. The widow of Russell Dean Nichols, she was the daughter of the late William Murry Guyton and Mortie Brisson Guyton.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Dean Gray; a son, Russell David Nichols of Richmond; five grandchildren, Robert Russell Gray Jr., Robin L. Turner, Deanna M. Gray, Russell David Nichols Jr. and Jennifer Lynne Nichols; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany M. Gray and Brittany L. Turner; sisters, Bonnie Mae Hunnings of Franklin and Eloise Parker of Chesapeake.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. George H. Close Jr. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times in the home of Mary Dean Gray, 133 Gene Ave., Suffolk. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
