GRACE E. DAVIS

Grace Elizabeth Davis, of London Blvd., died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 27, 1997. She was born in Portsmouth in 1906 and spent her entire life there. She was a devoted lifelong member of Park View United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 70 years and sang in the choir.

She retired in 1963 after 38 years of service in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a court reporter. She is remembered for her support of Parkview and its Preservation League and a staunch supporter of the City of Portsmouth and its cultural activities.

To all of us who knew her she was a very special person, ``an Angel,'' and will be sorely missed.

Miss Davis was preceded in death by her three brothers, James Martin Davis Jr., William Watts Davis and Charles Robert Davis.

Survivors include her brother George F. Davis and his wife, Gerry, of Charlton Heights, W.Va.; three sisters-in-law, Frances B. Davis, Marye W. Davis and Lisle B. Davis; eight nieces and nephews, Phyllis D. Hudgins, Susannah D. Goldsberry, Lynne D. Pazuros, Langhorne D. Porter, James M. Davis III, Linda D. Barney, Virginia D. Kindall and Eric Davis; 16 great-nieces and -nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and -nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Park View United Methodist Church by Rev. Daniel G. Spaugh. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth.
