Thomas L. Newby Jr. of the 1100 block of E. City Hall Ave. died April 26, 1997, in a local hospital.
A native of Norfolk, he was a truck driver retired from Lewis Wholesale Tomato Co. after more than 30 years and was the widower of Catherine Newby. He was a member of Freedom Church of God in Christ, Norfolk, and the usher board. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his daughter, Earline Roseboro; son, Thomas Newby III of Norfolk; aunt, Ardelia Gill; two grandchildren, Alethia Roseboro and Deatrice Newby; three great-grandchildren, AnQuan Roseboro, Da'Wan Heath and Danielle Newby. Mr. Newby also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Freedom Church of God in Christ by the Rev. Francis Askew. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends in the residence. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
