George C. Abatsis, 73, of the 500 block of Jonathan's Cay, formerly of Marlborough, Mass., died Sunday, April 20, at the New England Medical Center, Boston.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Brandt) Abatsis, and the husband of the late Una (Blake) Abatsis, who died in 1987.
Mr. Abatsis was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1972. During this time, he served in Europe and the Philippines during World War II, as well as during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his discharge, he continued his employment with the U.S. government in civil service, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his son, Charles Abatsis of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Una M. Abatsis of San Francisco; brother, Ernest Abatsis of Marlborough; sister, Dorothy Driscoll of West Wareham, Mass.; and his grandson, Morgan Abatsis of Virginia Beach.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 1, at 2 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Slattery Funeral Home, Marlborough, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
