Paul C. Stokley, 98, of the 400 block of Riverside Drive died May 2, 1997, in a local hospital.
Retired president of T.O. Williams Inc., a meat processing firm in Portsmouth, he retired in 1977 with 50 years of service. He was a native of Mount Dora, Fla., and a member of Cradock Baptist Church, Portsmouth. He was active in the Masonic fraternity and was a 60-year member of the Naval Lodge No. 100 and affiliated with the Scottish Rite Bodies, Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter, Portsmouth Kiwanis Club with a record of more than 57 years of perfect attendance. He won the 1972 First Citizen Award (Portsmouth) and was a member and past president of the Tidewater Automobile Association and a member of the Virginia Bar Association since 1932.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma M. Stokley; sister, Christina S. Chalker of Florida; three brothers, W.K. Stokley, Wilmer Stokley and Elmer J. Stokley, all of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Cradock Baptist Church by Dr. David R. Denny. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Cradock Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
