James Edward Roach, 70, died May 9, 1997, in Emporia, Va.
Mr. Roach was the son of the late William and Viola Benton Roach. He was born in Baltimore, Md., and grew up in Raleigh, N.C. He was a lifelong self-employed ceramic tile setter and was a Methodist. He was an Army and Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of a parachute club and actively involved in parachuting until he retired in 1988.
He is survived by a daughter, Delores R. Adams and her husband, Cary of Suffolk; two sons, Robert Edward ``Ed'' Roach and his wife, Nikki of Mars Hill, Maine, and Ronald Earl ``Ronnie'' Roach of Suffolk; a brother, Alan Roach of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Lauran Kelli Adams and Tiffany Erin Adams.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Holland Cemetery by the Rev. Billy Presley. The family will receive friends at the home of Delores and Cary Adams, 4061 Vicksburg Road, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Association, P.O.
