FOOD LION is adding MVP Bonus Buys to its frequent-shopper program. Unlike the current MVP program, Bonus Buys are given to any MVP card holder no matter how much the total purchase.
Two MVP Bonus Buys in produce this week are 8-ounce containers of sliced mushrooms for 99 cents and iceberg lettuce for 49 cents a head.
While cruising the produce sections, look for Del Monte ``Gold'' Extra Sweet pineapples, from Costa Rica. Del Monte claims these pineapples are two times sweeter. They are picked riper, kept at 55 degrees and are ready to be eaten when they arrive at the stores.
Farmer Jack has bunches of broccoli for 77 cents, bananas for 28 cents a pound, and peaches for 57 cents a pound.
First of the season nectarines are 99 cents a pound, and 5-pound bags of red delicious apples are $1.88 at Farm Fresh.
3 Stores 1 Roof has six ears of corn for 99 cents, watermelons for $2.77 each and baking potatoes for 17 cents a pound.
Strawberries are 97 cents a pound and yellow squash is 43 cents a pound at Rack & Sack and 3 Stores 1 Roof.
Hannaford offers cut seedless watermelon for 25 cents a pound and green peppers for 79 cents a pound.
Attention seafood lovers, Food Lion has calico scallops and catfish or perch fillets for $2.99 a pound. Tilapia fillets are $4.99 a pound at Hannaford. 3 Stores 1 Roof has Alaskan snow crab clusters for $3.58 a pound. Farmer Jack has medium shrimp, 41 to 50 count, for $5.99 a pound.
You and the kids will be happy with half-price Oscar Mayer Fun Pack lunchables, 98 cents each at 3 Stores 1 Roof and Rack & Sack.
Stock the pantry with 6-ounce cans of Star Kist tuna for 59 cents and 12-ounce cans of Hormel Spam for $1.99 at Food Lion. Hannaford has Mardi Gras paper towels for 39 cents a roll.
Kraft mayonnaise, 32-ounce jars, are $1.39 each; a 12-roll pack of Cottonelle toilet paper is $1.79 (limit 1); a 3-count of Ssips drinks are 49 cents (limit 2); and a 50-ounce bottle of Wisk Ultra liquid detergent is $1.89 at Farmer Jack.
Poultry and pork specials include pork chops for $1.97 a pound at Food Lion. Also, pick up pork spareribs for $2.49 a pound or whole fryers for 59 cents a pound at Farm Fresh.
Rack & Sack and 3 Stores 1 Roof have pork shoulder picnics for 68 cents a pound. Perdue oven stuffers are 67 cents a pound at Farmer Jack. Hannaford has chicken leg quarters for 29 cents a pound.
Food Lion has whole sirloin tips for $1.27 a pound, and Farmer Jack has boneless sirloin steak for $2.38 a pound.
Ready-made crepes are on the shelf
Ready-made French crepes, a time-saver, are in the stores. Impress your family or guests with elegant looking entrees or desserts.
Use them to make blintzes smothered in fruit toppings, stuff them with vegetables and eggs for breakfast, or fill them with ice cream, drizzled with fudge sauce.
You can find Melissa's and Frieda's crepes in local Farm Fresh, Hannaford and Harris Teeter stores with prices ranging from $2.69 to $3.49 for a package of 10 (9-inch) crepes.
