Geneva E. Van Petten, 94, died May 10, 1997, after a long illness. A retired school teacher, she taught elementary school in Baltimore County for more than 20 yeas.
She was the widow of the late Louis B. Van Petten. She was born in Lovington, Ill., and raised in Villa Grove and Springfield, Ill. She was married in 1923. The family moved in Maryland in 1933 and resided in Chestertown, Aberdeen, Taneytown, Uniontown, Pikesville and Union Bridge. Upon retirement in 1979, the family moved to Virginia Beach and in 1989, she moved to Chesapeake. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Chesapeake.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Louis E. Van Petten of Cambridge, Md., and Thomas L. Van Petten of Chesapeake; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Peters of Springfield.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 621 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 1997. The family will receive relatives and friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today.
