John Melick Godfrey, 66, of the 1300 block of Kay Ave., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mr. Godfrey was born in Pasquotank County, N.C., and was the son of the late Milton L. Godfrey Sr. and Millicent Sanders Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey was predeceased by his daughter, Laurie G. Bryan; his sister, Marian G. Nichols; his brother, Milton L. ``Buddy'' Godfrey Jr. He was an inspector at the Norfolk Ford Assembly Plant with 47 years of service. Mr. Godfrey was a member of Great Bridge Evangelical Free Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Jones Godfrey; his two daughters, Donna G. Boyd of Greenville, N.C., and Bonnie G. Mackley of Chesapeake; his son, Mike Godfrey of Chesapeake; his sister, Marie Smith of Chesapeake; his brother, William Marvin Godfrey of Falmouth, Va.; five grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Mike, Bobby and Matthew.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Jim Hunnewell at Riverside Memorial Park. Viewing will begin Thursday and the family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. that evening.
