GROVER A. GIVENS

Grover A. Givens, 83, of the 2200 block of Branch Drive, died May 16, 1997, in his residence.

A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Grover C. Givens and May Givens. He started a business, G.C. Givens and Sons, in May 1930 at Elm Avenue and Gosport Road and moved to High Street in 1941, adding on to the store in 1948. He sold the business to Mr. Ferebee in 1968, retiring at age 54. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II with six years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Anne B. Givens, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a precious daughter, Anna May Givens.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Revs. Robert Cofield and Scott Rimer. The family will receive friends in the residence. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is in charge. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
