LILLIE M. MORRIS

Mrs. Lillie M. Morris, 64, of the 900 block of Madison Ave., died Monday, May 19, 1997, in her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A native of Norfolk, she attended the Norfolk School System. Lillie retired from The Virginian-Pilot after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and the Quiet Ones/Willing Workers.

Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband of 20 years, John T. Morris. She was formerly married to Melvin T. Cooke Sr. Out of this union were born nine children, Melba T. Cooke of Anchorage, Ala., Alma Cooke Felton of Virginia Beach, the Rev. George N. Cooke of Raeford, N.C., Dwain L. Cooke of Bronx, N.Y., Wayne L. Cooke of Philadelphia, Gregory Cooke of Portsmouth, Glenn L. Cooke of Phoenix, Garry Cooke and Melvin T. Cooke Jr., both of Norfolk; a sister, Bessie Parker and a brother, the Rev. L.P. Watson; seven daughters-in-law; a stepdaughter; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 22 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2401 Ludlow St., Norfolk, by the Rev. John R. Davis. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Graves Funeral Home of Norfolk. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
