Dorothy R. Bates, 79, died May 26, 1997, in DePaul Medical Center.
A native of Moorestown, N.J., she was the widow of John V. Bates Sr. and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Reserve Association Branch No. 60, Ladies Auxiliary Retired Officers Association and the Senior Santos Club.
Survivors include three sons, John V. Bates Jr. of Norfolk, Richard S. Bates of San Diego and Gary P. Bates of Lawai, Hawaii; five sisters, Helen Herron of Cherry Hill, N.J., Ruth Eels of Tucson, Ariz., Bernadine Williams of Marietta, Ga., Eileen Thresher of E. Aurora, N.Y., and Elaine Reid of Lilburn, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Dugan of Maineville, Ohio, and Donald Dugan of Roseville, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. today in Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Father Lou Ruoff. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A prayer service will be conducted at the church Friday at 10 a.m. with a procession to follow to the cemetery.
