HAMPTON ROADS lAW PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES AT DEALERSHIP: William Law was named vice president of sales for Freedom Ford in Norfolk and Hampton. He was previously general sales manager at the Norfolk location for six years.

NORFOLK

HANBURY EVANS TO DESIGN HOUSING FOR OLYMPICS: Hanbury Evans Newill Vlattas & Co., a Norfolk-based architectural firm, has been hired to design the housing for the athletes, coaches and officials participating in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The residences will also serve as student housing for the University of Utah. The $100 million construction project will be built on the site of the University and Fort Douglas.

SUFFOLK

JAMES RIVER BANKSHARES DECLARES DIVIDEND: The James River Bankshares Board of Directors on Friday declared its cash dividend for second quarter 1997 of 7.7 percent, to 14 cents per share. The second quarter dividend is payable to shareholders of record May 29, 1997, and is payable on June 16, 1997.

VIRGINIA BEACH

ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS RECEIVES HONOR: Electronic Systems was one of 50 companies selected in the office automation field in the country by Office Dealer 97, a dealer magazine that circulates to office automation companies. This year the company was given the title ``Elite'' dealer status. This is the second year in a row the company was honored.

KIS COMPUTERS AWARDED CONTRACT: KIS Computers has been awarded the city of Virginia Beach computer hardware contract for an expected $1 million for the first year and options to renew for four additional years. The city of Virginia Beach consists of over 35 departments and 3,000 computer users. KIS will advise, provide and service new computer purchases, upgrades to older computer systems and repair systems.

NEWPORT NEWS

nVIEW ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS: nVIEW Corp. appointed Jerry W. Stubblefield executive vice president for business operations and Diane H. Lingo vice president of finance. Stubblefield will continue as chief financial officer and will assume additional management responsibility for certain business operations, including sales, information services and finance. Lingo, who was director of finance, joined the company in 1992 as accounting manager.

VIRGINIA

``K'' LINE MOVES U.S. HEADQUARTERS TO HENRICO COUNTY: ``K'' Line America Inc., the U.S. arm of a Japanese shipping company, will move its corporate headquarters to Henrico County from Murray Hill, N.J. The relocation, announced by Gov. George Allen, represents an $8 million investment and 90 new jobs for the Richmond area. A year ago, the company opened a national service center in Chesterfield County that now employs 135 workers. ``K'' Line recently began a North Atlantic shipping service that calls in the port of Hampton Roads. Allen said a trade mission last spring to Japan helped attract the headquarters.

HARDEE'S DONATES CHICKEN PROFITS TO VIRGINIA SPECIAL OLYMPICS: In honor of Special Olympics Week, Hardee's restaurants throughout Virginia will donate 50 cents from any order of fried chicken, eight pieces or larger, sold June 1 through 8 to the Virginia Special Olympics. Funds will be used for the 1997 Summer Games to be held June 6-8 in Richmond. Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Hardee's largest franchiser in Virginia, also provides volunteers and food for Special Olympics competitions in addition to monetary support.

BEST TO BEGIN PAYING SOME CREDITORS: A U.S. bankruptcy court has approved Best Products' plan of liquidation, and the company will begin distributing recovery checks to holders of allowed claims in late June. Best Products said about 1,200 claims in dispute will not be paid until the disputes are resolved, which the company said could take until the end of the year or longer.
