LEONARD H. DAVIS

Leonard H. Davis, Norfolk City Attorney for 20 years, died May 30, 1997. He was the widow of Alice Covington Davis.

Mr. Davis was a native of Portsmouth and live there until 1938 when he moved to Norfolk, where he always worked. Follwing graduation from Portsmouth's Woodrow Wilson High School he attended Washington and Lee University and graduate from its law school.

He engaged in the private practive of law for a number of years, was judge of Norfolk Police and Traffic Court for over eight years, was an assistant city attorney for several months and then city attorney. He retired from the City of Norfolk on Jan. 1, 1975. He was a retired member fo the Virgina State Bar and the Virgina Bar Association and was a retired member and past presdient of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association.

He was a memberof Saint Paul's Episcopal Church,Norfolk, and was an Amry veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucy Davis Hansen, wife of Eugene W. Hansen, and two grandchildren, Alice Carter Hansen and Peter Covington Hansen.

A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Richard W. Reid. Burial will be private.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene W. Hanse, 1415 W. Princess Anne Road, Norfolk. Memorial contributions maybe made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 201 Saint Paul's Blvd., Norfolk, 23510-2790 or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 601 Childrens Lane, Norfolk, Va .23507-9982.
