Ruth Elizabeth Jersild Engel, 83, died June 6, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Engel is survived by her children, Lorna J. Williams of Valparaiso, Ind., Martha M. Whalen of Virginia Beach, Judy Wilson Grant of Sanford, the Rev. Richard S. Enghel of Jacksonville, Fla., Karen E. Bickel of Valparaiso, Ind., Timothy E. Engel of Aurora, Ill., Phillip T. Engel of Virginia Beach; a sister, Violet Larsen, and a brother, Victor Jersild, of Chesapeake; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Richard S. Engel assisted by Mrs. Engel's son-in-law, the Rev. Donald H. Williams. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial can be made to the charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral hour at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
